History of Moroccan Rugs

Creating treasures, crafted to last a lifetime

The tradition of Moroccan rugs dates back thousands of years and is older than the country of Morocco itself. It is believed that the Berber tribes of North Africa, who are the indigenous people of the region, began creating these rugs as early as 1100 BC.

The Berber tribes are known for their nomadic lifestyle, and they would use these rugs to cover the floors of their tents to keep them warm during the cold winter months. The rugs were also used for ceremonial purposes, such as weddings and other special occasions.

Each rug is unique and tells a story.

The designs and patterns on the rugs are often symbolic and represent different aspects of the Berber culture and way of life. The rugs are handwoven using traditional techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.

Today, Moroccan rugs continue to be an important part of the Berber culture and heritage and a unique treasure that last a lifetime.
